Our client is a large publicly traded multi-national company based in Glen Allen, VA who seeks a Tax Director to oversee all tax compliance and planning related to their ventures portfolio. This is a highly visible role within the organization and reports directly to the VP-Tax. The primary duties will include overseeing external service providers and consolidating those results to be included with the remainder of the organization for tax purposes.

Job Responsibilities:
Work with outside service providers and others in the corporate tax department to ensure the ventures companies' are in compliance with US GAAP. This includes the preparation of tax footnotes for financial statements of those entities and assisting with the footnotes for the consolidated financial statements. It also includes ensuring that each acquisition is set up and accounted for properly with respect to taxes. This includes the tax aspects of accounting for business combinations and also the tax implications of tax basis step ups pursuant to Code Sections 338 and 754.
Manage external service providers who prepare venture companies' tax returns on a stand-alone basis and ensure accurate inclusion of those results in the consolidated federal income tax return and in state combined or unitary returns, as appropriate. Where a company is a tax partnership, ensure that partnership agreements are followed with respect to distributions required to make estimated tax payments. Determine estimated payments for all Ventures companies.
Maintain superior working relationships with accounting personnel of Markel Corporation dedicated to Markel Ventures operations and accounting personnel at the Ventures companies in order to ensure new issues and transactions are accurately handled in tax provisions and on tax returns and that recommendations with respect to tax planning opportunities are raised with management.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tax laws and tax accounting changes that impact venture companies.
Assist with due diligence for acquisitions.
Provide guidance, instruction, direction, and leadership to others within the Tax Department, the Ventures entities, and the Ventures accounting team for the purpose of achieving functional goals and objectives as well as continual process improvement, communicating effectively with all, considering their level of accounting and tax knowledge.
Position Qualifications:
Requires BS-Accounting, CPA certification and 10+ years accounting firm or corporate tax experience
Strong technical knowledge with respect to both tax provision and compliance work
Ability to manage projects, gather facts and perform analysis independently
Desire and ability to learn tax issues relevant to multiple non-insurance industries
Requires excellent interpersonal skills
Prior experience in the manufacturing industry preferred
Must be willing to travel onsite to company on occasion

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
